HUNGARY’S BIGGEST RESEARCH WIND TUNNEL TO BE BUILT AT THE BUDAPEST UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY AND ECONOMICS (BME)

With “Atmospheric Flow Laboratory” (short in Hungarian: AÁL), researchers of BME intend to establish a state-of-the art wind tunnel laboratory, unique in Hungary, to study problems in building- and environmental aerodynamics. The project received 411 million HUF (1.3 M EUR) funding from the European Union and the Hungarian Government.

The laboratory will provide a world-class infrastructure for architectural and civil engineering research related to atmospheric flows, and it will assist Hungarian researchers to join international research networks.

In the new wind tunnel, researchers of BME will study the flow around wind-sensitive structures, buildings and bridges, model the dispersion of hazardous materials and the ventilation of urban areas.
